Guest Reviews of D-Hotel Maris
We went to D-Hotel for our anniversary and after the amazing reviews I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. The hotel grounds and beaches are pristine, service excellent and good and restaurants wonderful. We were there for five nights but wished we had stayed for twice as long. The hotel is a long drive away from Bodrum and Dalaman airports, Dalaman is about half an hour closer but still a good 1.5 hours drive away. This means that most of your first day is wasted travelling to the hotel. They do offer a helicopter service which gets you there in 25 minutes, it is pricey but if you can afford it I would definitely advise you to book this.
On arrival we were given a warm welcome and shown to our rooms. We had booked the superior mountain view room. The view was nice and there was a balcony. I did not get to see the alternatives, but my minor criticism would be that the bathroom is small for a couple (there is only one sink) and not much room to move around. The room itself is well decorated in dark wood but I found it a bit dark. The tv channels are mostly in Turkish and it would have been nice to have had a movie channel to watch in the evenings as there is no night entertainment except on the weekends. I have to stress these are very minor points - you hardly spend any time at all in your room. I am not sure I would upgrade to a sea view room if the size of the rooms remains the same there does not seem to be much point.
Breakfast was amazing the choice of food is wide and everything is freshly made to order. I like to lie in and so having breakfast til 11 was great. It is served on the terrace with a wonderful view overlooking the pool.
After breakfast you have at least four beaches to choose from as well as the pool. You can access the beaches via the golf buggies at reception (very quick), a funicular which goes down to the main beach or very steeps and windy steps. Once at the main beach you can get a shuttle boat to one of the other beaches on the resort. We never had to wait long and there is not a huge fight for beach beds - we found plenty of choice at the main beach right along the shoreline, although the Colliseum Beach was a bit more busy.
My favourite beach was the main beach as you were near Aqua Bar and the restaurants as well as an ice cream bar. You can order drinks and food from your lounger by pressing a bell. Service was quick and efficient, only downside is that food tends to attract wasps so it is better to eat on the grass or in the restaurants. The water is clear turquoise.
We also went to the Colliseum beach but i found teh service here was a bit slower.
In the evenings there are a choice of restaurants, we went to all of them and they are all good. Zuma disappointed a little but the price is much cheaper than London. Wine is expensive so we stuck to spirits mostly. Our favourite was Il Riccio, the seafood restaurant which is wonderfully romantic at night as it right on the shoreline. Service and food was excellent.
The spa was lovely and not too expensive.
They have a live band on Friday and Saturday night followed by a DJ. It is not amazing, but fun to get out and have a drink or two.
This resort is excellent for R&R, if you want a historical/cultural turkish experience you will need to travel further afield. For those of you who want to relax in the lap of luxury in beautiful surroundings without having to move from the resort this is the place for you. Although the resort was at full capacity it never felt full or commercial, there was plenty of space and it felt 'boutique'. This is one of the best hotels I have ever been to and I will definitely be returning.

This is, without question, the most wonder hotel I've ever visited. I made my first visit in 2010 and it was excellent then... but in the past couple of years it's had a top to bottom refurbishment to a standard that is almost off the top of the scale.
Everything... and I mean everything about this hotel is first class.. from the rooms to the restaurants (x5)and from the spa to teh perfect beaches (x5!)... beautiful, scenic location, stunning beaches, safe swimming, so many choices in every respect.
Calm, serene, no fuss... RECOMMENDED!
