Grayshott Spa Reviews

I cannot recommend this break enough. It seemed pricey (most I've ever spent on a spa!) but all inclusive it was well worth it and I loved the spa/sport combo. All the treatments were great and I had a 1-to-1 personal training session and a 1-to-1 Pilates lesson which were both excellent – the staff really listened and shaped the sessions specifically for me. The food was fab, sensible sized portions for dinner and really tasty, healthy (but not rabbit food healthy!) 3 course meals. Fluffy white towels wherever you go, comfy tidy bedrooms and a lovely drawing room with fire to sit and read by. Perfect for the solo traveller (I was and saw several others) but would be equally enjoyable with a friend or partner. Go go!

- Rebecca, January 2013

After reading other reviews before arriving and having spent a glorious 4 nights at Grayshott, my opinion is that only the most fussy, spoilt and pedantic would refer to this place as "terrible".

The staff make this establishment what it is, a welcoming, warm and relaxing place to be and I hope that they are duly recognised and respected by the management. Nothing is too much trouble, they remember what you like and do not bat an eyelid at any request. They have just the right balance between serving you and leaving you alone, which I know can be difficult to achieve.

During my stay I suffered from terrible tooth ache in the middle of the night. Luckily I had strong painkillers with me but was unable to take them on an empty stomach. It was 3am but went downstairs on the off chance that I might be able to get a biscuit or something. The man on night shift very cheerfully made me two slices of bread and butter which I was very grateful for.

My standard room was supremely comfortable, light, airy and modern. The lack of a kettle did not bother me in the least as there is unlimited tea and herbal tea available a short walk from the room at any time. The bathroom I felt was modern as well with spotlights and soft white towels. I agree the water pressure isn't great, but it was strong enough to get the shampoo out of my hair, which is all I really need from a shower!

I love the fact that you can wander around in your bathrobe and slippers and eat breakfast and lunch in this fashion. Wonderfully relaxing.

I was on a Fusion Fitness break, which consisted of exercise and relaxation. I found this to be exactly what I got. The gym staff were knowledgeable, fun and kind, but were not afraid to be firm with you if that's what you want (I did!) They have really helped me get my motivation back for fitness and sent me away with easy to follow guidelines for fitness at home.

The treatments I felt were really excellent. You can request a male or female therapist at the time of booking if it bothers you. I have experienced many spas and treatments, in many different countries over the years and I felt that this place is up there in the top 10 of what I've seen. I do however feel that the treatments whilst excellent are a little pricey. About 10% more than I would normally expect to pay.

I found the relaxation area, steam and sauna to be excellent. I particularly enjoyed the steam room, which I spent a lot of time in. The only thing Grayshott is really missing is a Jacuzzi. I do have to agree with the other comments about the temperature of the pool and the hydro pool. There is clearly something wrong with their boiler or thermostat at the moment. Even if these were at the correct temperature I still would appreciate a Jacuzzi, but the lack of this facility would not put me off from returning.

I'm a fully qualified chef and have eaten in Michelin starred establishments around the world, so I understand what good food is. I was most impressed by the food at Grayshott. Wood pigeon, sea trout, fillet of beef Wellington, the list goes on. Each meal was so delicate and beautiful and clearly a lot of time and thought had gone into each menu.

The portions are small, but this is exactly what I needed. Three courses meant that I left each meal full but not stuffed, which is a lesson that I needed to learn. Portion control is everything. You don't need a massive portion, at the end of the day this is a health spa, not a stuff yourself silly spa! The waiters are more than happy to bring bread for your soup and a huge portion of veg on the side should you want a little extra.

The quality of the food provided here is excellent. Fish cooked to perfection and duck and beef cooked to a beautiful pink. Tasty and delicious and some of the puddings even had chocolate! The breakfasts and lunches are also varied and interesting. I was most pleased to see they had Marmite as I had forgotten my trusty jar which accompanies me on all hotel stays!!

I was also pleased to see that they provided butter as standard rather than margarine, as I personally feel that in moderation, butter is much better for you.

All in all the 4 days I spent at Grayshott were relaxing, invigorating and perfect for a solo looking for a retreat. I wouldn't say it’s a (raucous) hen party venue or a place I'd bring my partner for a romantic break (separate spas for male/ female) it’s a place you can go to be peaceful, introspective and calm. To exercise, be pampered and to eat healthily and eat well. Once I have saved the money up to do it again, as I'm by no means wealthy, I shall return and would look to come back at least once a year for 4 days of pure unadulterated "me time".

Highly, highly recommended.
