Adam's Review of Ananda

Arriving into the small airport of Dehradun via Delhi, I was greeted by my personal driver and taken straight into an air-conditioned 4x4 for the short 45-minute journey up the mountain towards Ananda. The journey itself was an experience, from seeing monkeys, cows, and goats up the windy uphill roads and a more impressive view at every turn. Ananda means peace – and my seven day stay was a purifying experience of just that.

Guest Reviews of Ananda in the Himalayas

The trip was just perfect, everything I had hoped it would be and more. The staff at Ananda were great, nothing too much trouble and they looked after me throughout my stay. I took the opportunity to visit Rishikesh for the Aarti and the temple to see the sun rise. On the way back I took a taxi ride into Delhi as I had quite a wait between flights, All adding to the experience.

The weather at this time of year was just right, warm enough to lie in the sun but cool enough to enjoy outdoor yoga and wanders around the palace grounds. All the classes were well organised and professionally delivered, my yoga teacher was quite strict and worked hard to devise a schedule which was appropriate to my experience and could be continued once I got home. The food was fabulous and well presented with plenty of choice, they even offered to make me anything I wanted even if it wasn't listed on the menu. My room was lovely although not sure I would bother with the valley view- there was quite a lot of haze, apparently like that most of the time so the view is not so clear, The palace view would have probably been more pleasant.

I had the best time and feel relaxed and inspired now I'm home.

Thanks for your help in sorting me out - I have listed a few tips for anyone else who is lucky enough to share my experience:

→ Consider a stop over in Delhi if connecting flight wait times are long

→ Kurta pyjamas are supplied and are worn throughout the day. No real need to take own clothes as guests wore these throughout the day including at meal times.

→ Bottled water supplied, however this has a high mineral content and can lead to upset tum. Not much can be done to avoid but there is a doctor on site who can assess and give advice. I think it is inevitable for most people to have some upset and I would suggest seeking advice on treatment early as doctors are very accessible and provide required medication free of charge.

→ Take the trips, they are cheap and definitely worthwhile if you want to have some insight into India and its people.
